Brown School Gym Abatement and Demolition

The Brown School Gym Demolition and Abatement project was a highly complex project which featured Apex self preforming asbestos remediation and demolition work in a multi-phased sequence. The Brown School consists of multiple construction types and additions built over a 60 year period; Our scope of work revolved around the connector wing, boiler room, gym, and associated locker rooms. Apex was responsible for MEP make-safe and execution of an engineered shoring plan, prior to hand separation of the structures to facilitate demolition.

Demolition of the 30’ tall steel framed gym required careful planning and execution in consideration of the neighboring property which immediately abuts it to the South, and the existing to remain School to the North. Asbestos abatement was preformed both traditionally under full containment and non-traditionally via a state approved NTWP when necessary. Exterior abatement was also performed via scaffolded work platforms under full containment, highlighting the various solutions that were incorporated into completion of this complex project.

Post-demolition, Apex completed various site restoration tasks including leveling and grading the site with imported clean fill, loaming and seeding, wood fence erection, concrete form work and pad installation, brick restoration at wall joints, and temporary enclosure construction at the existing to remain exterior facade.

This project stands as testament to Apex’s attention to detail, problem solving ability, and capability as far as planning and execution of complex demolition, abatement, and beyond.
